Stores Prepare For Last Minute Holiday Shopping

BRIDGEPORT -

With Christmas only two weeks away, stores in the area said they are noticing an increase in business.

The countdown is now on.

Millions of children around the world are preparing for the arrival of Santa Claus while their parents are running from store to store to pick up this years hottest items.

"I have everything decorated and all that done Thanksgiving week, first part of December," said Meadowbrook Mall Shopper Perry Ayoob. "But the shopping, we usually wait until the end."

Other said last minute shopping isn't an option.

"I have so many of them to shop for," said Jesse Carter. "It takes a little longer time then just two weeks because I have about 29 people to shop for."

As the holidays are getting closer, stores are getting busier. But it's not time to panic just yet.

Store employees said it's not very smart to do all of your holiday shopping on Christmas Eve. There is only so much inventory on the shelves and by the time you get there, that certain product you're looking for could be gone.

"Come sooner than later because it's going to get more hectic as we get closer to the holiday," said Target Manager Colman Munoz. "Almost 70 percent of Americans have not completed their shopping yet so there is still a lot of you that still need to shop."

Some people are searching frantically for that perfect gift before the holiday sales go away.

Department stores, like Target, said there is no need to panic.

"We're going to have the great deal all the way through the holidays," Munoz said. "But if you want to get that particular toy or that hot item I would come sooner rather then later just in case we don't get it back in."

Customers said while you're out getting last minute gifts, it's important to remember the reason for the season.

"Just enjoy yourself," Ayoob said. "That's the name of the game. Don't get caught up in the madness. It's all about the holiday."

For those who are trying to avoid the in-store holiday rush there are plenty of deals online.
