The Department of Homeland Security has given the Salem Police Department a sub-grant in the amount of $25,000.

Local animal shelters could use some help, this holiday season.
Sodexo Food Service, which serves Alderson-Broaddus College, is collecting supplies for Animal Friends of Barbour County.
It's inviting members of the Alderson-Broaddus community to drop off food and other pet supplies at the doghouse in the dining room of Heiner Hall.
Sodexo said it's trying to reach out to the rest of the community.
"They do food drives on the college and we just wanted to do something a little different," said Bruce Pearson, of Sodexo. "Animals always need help and it seems like most of the animal charities around here need help all of the time, so we were just trying to do what we could for that."
