BRIDGEPORT -
The Harrison County Sheriff's Department annual Shop with a Cop was Sunday morning. The event has been going on for more than 30 years and helped around 200 children on Sunday.
Faculty from local schools submit names of students to the sheriff's department to be able to shop with a deputy for the day. Parents join their kids and are given $70 for clothing and $40 for toys.
"We want to give back to the community and a lot of times, especially in light of things that have happened recently, it's good for kids to know that if they need help to come to law enforcement," said Sergeant Robert J. Waybright, the President of the Deputies Sheriff Association. "We want to help with that relationship with the children."
The Sheriff Department said it has donated more than half a million dollars on the program since it started.
