The Harrison-Clarksburg Health Department said the flu got an early start this year.

About two months early.

The department said it can't predict how severe this year's flu season will be but that its numbers could go up in the next week.

"We're heading into the holidays and there's a lot of travel and family coming in and because of that we have the chance, the possibility, that more influenza may be coming into the area," said Ramona Swiger, of the Harrison-Clarksburg Health Department.

Swiger recommends getting the flu shot if you haven't already, washing your hands frequently, and staying home if you do get sick, so others won't get it.
