County Offices of Emergency Management Prepare for Winter Weather

Posted: Updated:

County Offices of Emergency Management will monitor the winter weather as it passes through Friday night and through the holiday weekend.

Experts said the snow seems to be much lighter in weight than what Superstorm Sandy produced.

Upshur County's OEM hasn't received any reports of traffic problems, and students in the county didn't have to report to school.

The OEM also said workers from First Energy are in the area, in case of major power outages but that reports of outages have been low so far.

"They cut the outages down by half during the night during the storm under the worst possible conditions so they were out there, and we're also assured that they going to be some major improvements in Southern Upshur in 2013," said James Farrell, of Upshur County OEM.

The county met with FEMA last week to determine whether its residents are eligible for individual assistance from Superstorm Sandy.
