The ski season is underway at several resorts in West Virginia.

Timberline Resort in Tucker County opened its slopes to skiers on Friday, and Snowshoe Mountain in Pocahontas County has been open since last month.

Canaan Valley Resort said it will open five to seven trails on Saturday. Its tube park also is tentatively scheduled to open on Saturday.

"Mother Nature looks like she's blessing me right now. It looks like I got cold weather through at least the weekend, so I do not anticipate anything us stopping this opening, come Saturday," said Mike Chaney, ski area manager at Canaan Valley.

West Virginia resorts attract more than 800,000 skier visits a year, luring visitors from several different states.
