Everyone gets a lead foot every so often. But a study showing that West Virginia has more fatalities from car wrecks than other areas in the United States may have drivers on Interstate 79 hitting the brakes.
The State Tax Department is requiring a big increase in farm use taxes in Lewis County.
This comes after the county's assessor analyzed farm rent rates in the county.
He found that the rates had not changed since 1993.
Now, the tax rates will jump but taxpayers won't see an increase this large again.
"Going into next year, we complete this study year in and year out, there's not going to be this one great big increase," said Chad Kelley, Lewis County assessor. "So I can safely sit here and say this should not happen again."
Anyone who's affected by the change will get a letter sometime next week.
