Westover Annexation Discussion, County Reassessment Hearings to Possibly Continue in 2013

Posted: Updated:

In 2012 Monongalia County Commission spent plenty of time discussing annexing the Morgantown Mall to Westover and 2013 may be no different.

The commission voted 2 to 1 to discuss with the county's lawyers on whether or not they can re vote on the annexation.

A re vote request was made to the commission as new commissioner Tom Bloom started Wednesday.

Commission Eldon Callen said he is the only commissioner who can motion to re vote because only commission members who voted against annexation can make the motion.

Callen said if Westover wants to appeal the decision they need to take the case to circuit court.

Reassessments may also continue in 2013 in Monongalia County.

New Assessor Mark Musik said the State Tax office is sending letters to more than 5,700 residents in the county whose assessments went up 10 or more percent in 2012.

Last year, the commission held more than 2,000 property reassessment hearings based off 2011 assessment values.

The commission will begin reassessment hearings by February 1.
