TAYLOR COUNTY -

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tygart Lake is asking the community for live Christmas tree donations.

Park Resource Manager Mike Estock said all donated trees will be placed along the Tygart Lake Marina shoreline while the water levels are low.

Concrete blocks will be tied to the Christmas trees to keep them on the bottom of the lake.

When the water rises in the spring, the trees will be completely underwater, creating a habitat for the fish.

Estock said the Christmas tree habitat will improve fishing in the lake, as well as its structure.

Volunteers will put the trees into the marina on February 23.

In 2012, the ACOE added more than 400 trees to the marina.

Trees will be accepted until January 31 and can be dropped off at the Grafton City Garage below Bridge Street.

For more information on the tree recycling program, you are encouraged to call the Tygart Lake Office at 304-265-1760.
