MONONGALIA COUNTY -
The Monongalia County Sheriff's Department is investigating a string of vehicle break-ins that happened early Saturday morning. People lost everything from a few cents to prized guns.
"We are a close-knit neighborhood," said Lisa Pancoast, a victim who's car was broken into. "Everybody started getting phone calls saying that there was break-ins in peoples cars."
The Sheriff's Department arrived on Bethel Church Road to collect evidence from around 18 different incidents at about 6 houses.
Residents reported some loose change from their console missing, while others said higher-priced and more valuable things were also stolen.
"They stole two pistols from my neighbors and one of them was really sentimental value," said Pancoast. "It was given to my neighbor on his wedding day."
The Sheriff's Department said most of the cars that were broken into were unlocked. Deputies want to remind people to lock cars that will be left outside overnight.
"Whoever it was messed with, you know, elderly people on this road," said Pancoast. "There's a lot of elderly people on this road that don't need that."
Deputies and Detectives found several items of evidence including footprints. They are being submitted for examination. If you have any additional information you are asked to contact the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department at 304-291-7260.
