    Entsorga will take waste and separate steel, aluminum and glass, recycle certain types of biodegradable waste and convert it to an end product that can be used to make cement.

The South Charleston Rotary is in the midst of a revitalization, including expanding its presence in the local area through community service efforts.

South Charleston Rotary members kicked off their efforts on Sept. 22, 2012, by participating with their family members in a Habitat for Humanity Build Day.

In October, the South Charleston Rotary held a book drive for the Christ Life Fellowship Mission Project to establish a library for elementary through high school students in the rural community of Ilaro, Nigeria. Rotary members, with the assistance of generous book donations from the South Charleston Public Library and parishioners from Blessed Sacrament Church, collected hundreds of new and gently used books. The books were delivered in December to Nigeria during a Christ Life Fellowship mission trip led by Pastor Joseph Kusimo.

October was a busy month for the Rotary, as members also volunteered with the Oct. 4 Montrose School Family Fun Night and the Oct. 20 Build-A-Playground Day in South Charleston.

In December, members of the South Charleston Rotary rang bells for Heart and Hand at the Riverwalk Kroger, raising more than $500 for their toy fund. Inspired by those efforts, individual club members personally donated an additional $460 to the fund, which was matched by the Rotary Club.

South Charleston Rotarians also are participating in a year-long campaign, ending on July 1, 2013, to raise funds for Rotary International's Water Project, which focuses on providing safe water and sanitation to communities in need. At their weekly meeting, the Rotarians voluntarily drop a dollar or more into the "Wally the Water" Jug. The local rotary has a goal of $1,000 by the end of the campaign.

The South Charleston Rotary participates in such service projects to promote Rotary's motto of "Service above Self." The Rotary meets every Tuesday at noon at Little Creek Country Club and is currently accepting new members.
