REEDSVILLE -

The Reedsville Volunteer Department held its annual Buckwheat Breakfast on Sunday to raise funds.

Firefighters said the department holds fundraisers once a month in order to pay the monthly bills.

The Buckwheat Breakfast is the biggest fundraiser of the year, bringing the department nearly $1,000 every time.

It costs residents $8 for unlimited buckwheat cakes and drinks.

Firefighters said it's important to have the communities support because it would be impossible to operate without it.

"We have to pay the bills," said Nimrod Riley, Reedsville Volunteer Firefighter. "We have to keep the doors open, pay for insurance. Our insurance is thousands of dollars. Workman's Comp is $8,000 a year but right now the state is helping with that."

A flea market was also available for residents to do some shopping.

The Reedsville Volunteer Fire Department has several other fundraisers planned in the near future.
