CHARLESTON (AP) — West Virginia's Department of Health and Human Resources plans to fire one of three top officials placed on leave amid a dispute over the awarding of a government contract.

Department spokeswoman Marsha Dadisman said Assistant Secretary John Law will be dismissed Jan. 23.

Law has been on administrative leave since July along with Deputy Secretary Susan Perry and department general counsel Jennifer Taylor. They had raised concerns about the way others at the department had reviewed and scored bids for a six-figure advertising contract.

Perry and Taylor have since filed separate whistleblower lawsuits. Law did not, but said Jan. 8 he must consider doing the same to protect his interests.

The 56-year-old Law has been with the department since 2001. For several years, he's been DHHR's main liaison to the Legislature.
