A German-owned polyurethane company that operates in Clarksburg is beginning a multi-year process of expanding its business, according to President and CEO Christian Martinkat.

Stockmeier Urethanes USA Inc. has acquired a four acre parcel of land from Thrasher Real Estate Investment LLC and an office building near the Stockmeier production plant. The cost of the deal is $1.85 million.

Martinkat said Stockmeier plans to move administration into the building after Thrasher moves out sometime this summer. Martinkat said they plan to retrofit the building to better fit their purposes. He said the business has grown so much in the past seven years, the company has run out of room in its current building.

The company also plans to enlarge its production facility and hopes to gain rail access behind the building. Martinkat said the company has a multi-layer expansion plan that will carry the company into 2015.
