A Barbour County school has received a state grant to make its students safer.
Mount Vernon Elementary School has received a $115,000 Safe Routes to School grant.
The school will use the money to build a new sidewalk between it and the neighboring community of Brownton so students can access its walking trail on foot.
There currently is no safe way to get to the trail without driving to the school.
