WESTON -

The Lewis County Board of Health heard public comments Tuesday on a proposed amendment that would prohibit smoking in all public places and outdoors.

The ban would include parks and outdoor areas.

The board postponed a vote on the amendment and made some changes to it instead.

"They looked at making a couple exemptions or omissions. They did decide to omit the part that was going to do the outdoor regulation, which would include the parks, and Stonewall Jackson" said David Whittaker, Lewis County sanitarian.

The board will meet again at an undecided time and possibly vote on the amendment after a lawyer reviews the changes.
