Volunteers said the problem began when Monongalia County condensed the committees overseeing the park into one.
A local college wants to find some common ground between science and religion.
Glenville State College will begin a series of seminars this month on bringing facts and faith together.
Professor Gary Morris said there's no reason why the two have to be at odds as much as they are.
Morris said he hopes participants will learn more about both modern science and their own faith.
"They have to respect each other," Morris said. "Scientists have to respect the beliefs of those who have faith, and faith should respect what science is trying to achieve."
The seminars will start on Tuesday, January 29 and continue into the spring.
