You would probably never expect a 5'5, junior point guard to be anything special. But after watching Mariah Callen play the game of basketball, you finally realize just how good she is, and more importantly, how good the team is.
"I've had a pretty good year, scoring wise," University guard Mariah Callen said. "But that's definitely not my main focus. My main focus is handling the ball the best I can and trying to distribute to other people and get other people open looks. It's worked pretty well so far."
Pretty well would be an understatement. University is currently ranked at no. 2 in the state and hold an 8-1 overall record. Translation: this Hawks team has a chance to win it all.
"I think that we're capable of a lot if we just do some little fine tuning here and there, especially with our rebounding and our easy shots. If we really focus together and communicate as a team, then I really think we'll go somewhere," Callen said.
What many people don't know is that Callen is only a junior. Which means this Hawks program is in a great position for future success.
"I definitely think that if I continue to work how I am now, then next year will be pretty special," Callen said.
