CHARLESTON, WV (AP) — A former longtime Wayne County banker is the newest member of West Virginia's House of Delegates.
Plans to replace outgoing Sen. Walt Helmick, D-Pocahontas, are under way.
Helmick, who was elected Agriculture Commissioner in November, will be sworn into that office Jan. 14.
The 15th Senatorial District Democratic Executive Committee will meet at 10 a.m. Jan. 18 at the Bank of Romney to recommend three people to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin to fill the pending vacancy in that district.
The 18-person committee is made up of one man and one woman from each of the counties that made up the "old," or pre-2010 Census-redistricted 15th Senate district. Members of the committee were elected during the 2010 primary, or appointed by their respective counties.
