BUCKHANNON -
The Upshur County Commission will hold a public hearing next month to discuss raising fees for its enhanced 911 ordinance.
The commission said the county has been at its current fee of $2.65 since 2005.
The proposed increase would raise it to $4.50 for residents and $6.50 for businesses.
County Administrator Willie Parker said the commission needs the increased in revenue to offset increases in operational costs and staff levels.
Parker said the commission may need to make cuts elsewhere.
"If cuts are made they'll be made to other agencies whether it will be the public library, youth camp, pool facilities, parks and recreation programs important programs but there not public safety or life support programs so there quality of life programs that would have to be cut," Parker said.
Parker said another reason for the proposed fee hike because more and more people are making the switch from land lines to cell phones.
