The Marion County Sheriff's Department has hired two additional deputies that will play a big part in courthouse security.
At Wednesday's Marion County Commission meeting, a motion was passed to hire Christopher Erdie and Brian Speakman as deputy sheriffs.
The commissioners have been working for the past two years to increase security in the courthouse.
They said additional deputies will make the public and employees feel safer.
"There will be another two deputies in the courthouse plus one deputy with each judge," said Marion County Commissioner Butch Tennant. "We will actually have five deputies in the courthouse every day. Two of them will be roamers. They will be roaming through the courthouse."
The employment of both deputies became effective in December.
