FAIRMONT -

West Virginia State Police are investigating the theft of a Marion County man's cremains.

Corporal H. Myers said the ashes went missing on Christmas Eve, but it wasn't reported until January 2.

The ashes were last seen in a small box, in the back of a vehicle.

Corporal Myers said the box was taken while the man's son was running errands in Marion County.

State Police have checked the surveillance cameras at each business the man stopped at, but have no leads.

Corporal Myers said the recovered urn at West Virginia University does not match the description of remains stolen from the man's vehicle.

If you have any information about the missing ashes, call the West Virginia State Police at 304-367-2701.
