UNION, WV (AP) — A former Alderson employee will spend at least a year in prison for embezzling money from the town.
A Mason County man will serve a year and a half in federal prison for dumping sewage into a lake, U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin recently announced.
Frank Zuspan, 61, pleaded guilty in September 2012 to dumping a pollutant into waters of the United States without a permit.
Zuspan admitted that in 2010, he took a 2,400-gallon sewage hauling truck to a Mason County property and illegally dumped the sewage into a lake that connected to the Ohio River.
According to the news release, Zuspan admitted to doing this on several occasions between November 2010 and February 2011.
"You can't pour raw sewage into your neighbors' water supply," Goodwin said in the release. "It's dangerous, and it's illegal, for obvious reasons. People should know better."
The Environmental Protection Agency conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Erik S. Goes and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Perry McDaniel handled the prosecution.
