Fairmont General Hospital Foundation Surpasses 'Improving Women's Health' Campaign Goal

Posted: Updated:

The Fairmont General Hospital Foundation has announced it has surpassed its $500,000 goal for the "Improving Women's Health" campaign.

The foundation was raising money to buy a new, diagnostic digital mammography unit for the hospital.

The foundation said the breast cancer death rate for Marion County is 25 percent higher than the national average.

The hospital said the new machine is much needed to accommodate its patients.

"The image quality is improved and hopefully that will lead to better mammograms and better detectability for breast cancer," said John Leon, of Fairmont General Hospital.

"We're very happy to tell you we are way over $500,000. That's a lot of money to raise in this community. The community people, the medical staff, the employees; our employees are great," said Frank Pulice, foundation director.

The Foundation hopes to start using the new equipment in six to seven weeks.
