The Shepherd University Jazz Faculty Ensemble will present a Tribute to the Cool School as part of Shepherd's Music Salon Series at 8 p.m. Jan. 17. The concert is free and open to the public.

The faculty ensemble will present music made popular by musicians of the Cool Jazz Movement in the 1950s. Led by Kurtis Adams, assistant professor of music at Shepherd, the members of the ensemble include Nathan Lincoln-DeCusatis, David Marsh and Ronnie Shaw, and will feature special guest trumpeter Mike Kamuf.

Marsh, Shepherd's jazz bass instructor, was a child prodigy who studied at the Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts. He formerly taught jazz studies and jazz bass at the George Washington University. Marsh has performed with artists such as Ricky Loza, Tim Eyermann's East Coast Offering, Vaighn Nark, and Chris Vadala. He is the bassist for Cook, Dixon, and Young (formerly "The Three Mo' Tenors").

Shaw, Shepherd's jazz drum instructor, has performed with the prestigious U.S. Air Force (USAF) Academy Band and the USAF Band, and has conducted clinics as percussion specialist for the Air Force. In 2002, Shaw joined The Three Mo' Tenors, now Cook, Dixon, and Young. He has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, the Washington Opera with Placido Domingo, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Shaw has performed for and conducted clinics at the annual Ricky Loza Jazz Festival in El Salvador.
