The West Virginia State Police has arrested a Buckhannon man and charged him with multiple counts of assault on a police officer, battery on a police officer, DUI, destruction of property, hit and run, and terroristic threats.
Michael Anthony Hager, 48, struck another vehicle with his gray Nissan Frontier truck in the Plantation Inn parking lot in Jane Lew. Hager fled the scene, heading south on Hacker's Creek Road, according to the criminal complaint. Hager then traveled off the roadway, hitting a fence and traveling into a field.
Police instructed Hager to exit the vehicle, which is when it became apparent that Hager was under the influence. Hager smelled of alcohol and had glassy, bloodshot eyes, according to the complaint.
Hager was unable to perform various field sobriety tests and was transported to the intoximeter location in Weston. Hager was read his implied consent form and refused to sign the form. Hager told the state trooper that he was going to assault him and shoot all of the West Virginia State Police, according to the complaint.
Hager is in Central Regional Jail with bail set at $66,000.
