2 Vehicle Accident in Wetzel County Reported

    An electrical fire destroyed a home in Harrison County Tuesday night. The Harrison County 911 Center said it started just after 12:15 a.m. on Locust Street in Salem. It said the fire appears to be suspicious.

SMITHFIELD -

Two people were flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital after a two vehicle accident in Wetzel County on Sunday.

It happened just after 6:30 p.m.

One vehicle was traveling on Mannington-Pricetown Road when it lost control and hit a telephone pole causing it to block the road.

The vehicle then went over a steep embankment, but the driver walked away from the scene.

Another vehicle traveling on the same road hit the pole, and also went over the embankment.

Two people in that car had to be extricated from the vehicle, and both were flown by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The driver who fled the scene was then picked up by the Wetzel County Sheriff's Department.

State Police said beer cans were found inside his vehicle and several charges are pending.

Wallace Fire Department performed the extrication.

Folsom EMS and Fire Department, Smithfield Fire Department, Pine Grove Fire Department, Jacksonburg Fire Department, Health Net, Wetzel County Sheriff, and the West Virginia State Police all responded to the accident.

West Virginia State Police are handling the investigation.
