SHEPHERDSTOWN (AP) — Archivists at Shepherd University have completed an indexing system of the late U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd's papers.

More than 2 million private papers and records are stored in the university's Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies.

It took more than two years to arrange, process and record the massive collection on databases.

The indexing system is available to the public by appointment. But center director Raymond W. Smock tells The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, Md., that he expects scholars most likely will be the early users.
