BUCKHANNON -

It's important to stay warm when it's this cold and that applies to first responders, too.

Fire departments make sure their people protect themselves from the cold weather.

When firefighters get wet, their turnout gear can freeze on them.

They can get frostbite, too. So they have to be careful.

"We try just doing some rehab to keep our guys warm, try to monitor there condition kind of watch the time frame their exposed to the elements, monitor their time is the big thing," said Chief Mitch Tacy, of the Buckhannon Fire Department.

Chief Tacy also urges everyone to check on elderly neighbors and to stay safe while staying warm or heating your home.
