The Clarksburg VA Medical Center dedicated a Medal of Honor Wall of Memory and held a ribbon cutting for the event on Tuesday.

The new wing is a same day surgery suite and outpatient procedure unit. Even though the center is old, the new renovations and changes make it seem new.

"We want to be able to provide them with good space and a very pleasant environment. It's hard to believe that as we stand here, this is a 60 year old building, and it doesn't look it at all," said Beth Brown, who is the medical center's director.

The new wing has added a lot of space to the hospital.

"We have expanded the number of exam rooms from 10 to 15, and we've been able to go from two special procedure units to three," Brown said.

The new wing also makes it better for the patients.

"It brings it all into a central location, so the patients don't have to travel down the hall from the time that they've prepped until they go into the procedure area," Brown said.

In addition to the new wing, the Medal of Honor Wall is one of a kind.

"This is the first in the whole United States of America, I think that's history," said Hershel "Woody" Williams.

Williams is not only a Medal of Honor recipient himself, but he also came up with the idea for the wall.

"It was an idea that came about simply because we do not have anything for the public to be able to see of those heroes in various parts of the state," Williams said.

The wall displays the names of all the deceased Medal of Honor recipients from West Virginia. Williams said he couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

"It's a dream come true. It's a dream come true, it really is. It's almost like a miracle happening that I maybe at times had some doubts that it would happen. But with the help of others, it did happen, it became a reality," said Williams.

Williams said he hopes to get similar walls added to the other three VA Medical Centers in West Virginia.
