The American Culinary Federation has named a Pierpont Community and Technical College faculty member its 2012 West Virginia Chef of the Year.
Jay Mahoney has led Pierpont's culinary teams to three straight state championships.
They've placed third in a regional competition and his students have traveled abroad to Italy.
Mahoney said it's important to get his students involved in various events across the state to better prepare them for their careers.
And he's having a blast.
"I've been a chef in the industry for quite a few years but it's only been in the more recent years that I had the opportunity to serve in a teaching role, and I'm really enjoying it," Mahoney said.
This is the third time Mahoney has won the Chef of the Year award.
He received it once in North Carolina and now twice in West Virginia.
