The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance for damage from Hurricane Sandy is almost here.

The last day to apply is this Saturday, January 26.

A federal disaster declaration, made 18 counties in West Virginia eligible for debris removal, emergency work and repairs after the storm.

Randolph County Commission president Chris See said having help available can make a big difference to emergency responders for things like gas and food.

"A lot was spent money on food and they need reimbursed for the food part which is going to be a great impact on the emergency shelters to be reimbursed for all this," See said.

State Senator Greg Tucker will hold an informational meeting in Elkins on Saturday to discuss the state's preparation and response to weather disasters.

The meeting will start at 10 a.m. in Elkins City Hall.
