MORGANTOWN -
Local organizations held a class in Morgantown on Wednesday to teach the public about citizen advocacy.
The ACLU West Virginia, the Citizen Action Group, and the Environmental Council put on a training program designed to help the public become citizen lobbyists.
The trainees learned all about the legislative process, how to speak to elected officials, and more.
"We go over how to have a citizen lobby visit with a lawmaker, how to make yourself understood, the do's and don'ts, and we do some role playing. One person pretends they're a lawmaker, the other person pretends to be a citizen lobbyist," said Gary Zuckett, executive director of West Virginia Citizen Action.
This was the first of three classes. The other two will be held in Charleston and Huntington.
