On Friday, the State Fire Marshal's Office was able to learn more about a fire that destroyed a trailer on Thursday.
It said the fire originated in the living room area around 9:30 a.m. after the owner left the residence a half an hour earlier.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find both doors locked and one set of prints leading from the mobile home, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
A dog perished in the fire.
The State Fire Marshal's Office said it hasn't found anything suspicious yet and suspects the fire may have been started in a ceiling light.
The Star City Volunteer Fire Department responded to a trailer fire Thursday morning in Monongalia County.
The fire occurred at approximately 9:35 a.m. at St. Clair's Village off of Van Voorhis Road.
Crews said the fire spread quickly and it took them a while to get it under control.
No one was home at the time and there were no injuries but officials said the family dog died.
The trailer is a total loss.
The cause of the fire is unknown but the homeowners told the fire department that the fire is suspicious.
Monongalia County EMS, the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department, the Monongalia County Fire Association, Granville Volunteer Fire Department, and Star City Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the scene.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
