BUCKHANNON -
The Upshur County Commission heard from a Bridgeport developer on Thursday who wants to build a low income housing complex for the county.
Joe Leighton has asked the commission to approve a letter of unqualified support for his project.
That letter would allow him to apply for tax credits to build up to 30 low income units.
Leighton and others who spoke said there's a need for more low income housing in Upshur County.
But the local landlords association said the commission should conduct a needs assessment before it makes a decision.
"When the local low income housing projects tell us that their at an all time low in occupancy or vacancies, their waiting list is lower its been in the past 26 years, that tell us there's some availabilities out there," said Jody Light, of West Virginia Landlords Association.
The commission didn't take any action on the matter.
It said it hopes to make a decision at future meeting.
