Several schools sent their students home early Friday in anticipation of the snow.
Schools in Lewis County released at 1 p.m. and the snow already was falling, coating roads around the school.
School officials said they'd be on hand to stay with students in case their parents couldn't get to school on the altered schedule.
"The buses of course are running their routes, and so the expectation is that someone's going to be at home, but if they're at work or something like that and have to readjust their schedule that can be difficult," said Tim Derico, of Lewis County High School.
Principal Tim Derico said this was only the second time the school had released early because of the snow since he's been principal.
