How Delays, Early Dismissals, and Cancellations are Decided in Harrison County

Posted: Updated:

Anthony Fratto, assistant superintendent of operations and facilities, makes the initial decision about school closings, delays, and early dismissals for Harrison County schools.

He consults with superintendent Susan Collins and uses many resources before deciding what action to take, but safety is always his main concern.

"We check the road conditions. We consult with the department of highways, with other counties, with the national weather service. We consult with other people who are out driving, but the final decision, yes, is made for safety and that's our number one issue," Fratto said.

Fratto added he's not worried about disappointing students because these weather-related decisions are part of his job.
