MORGANTOWN -

Circle of Friends is a community organization that serves a free meal almost every weekend of the month at the First Baptist Church in Morgantown.

It teamed up with EDGE Student Ministry to serve a hot meal to the less fortunate on Saturday.

Sandy Phares coordinates Circle of Friends weekly events with the church and explained what the group is.

"It's a combination of working groups that get together that want to provide a meal, families, and church groups," said Phares.

The group will feed anyone who is in need, and the numbers of people who attend stay pretty steady.

"Lately we've been in the 60's and 70's. We've noticed an increase in the number of people who need a meal, and we feed anybody," Phares said.

EDGE Youth Group from Kingdom Evangelical Methodist Church in Westover provided the meal on Saturday.

The guests said they having high school students serve the dinner, and the students said they enjoy serving the public.

"It's just an awesome feeling when you get to talk to someone and learn a little bit about them. Rather than judging them you get to learn what their story is, and why they are where they're at," said AJ Calvert, a member of EDGE Youth Group.

Phares said the students come and serve the meal out of the kindness of their hearts.

"These kids just come because they want to. And they aren't afraid to talk to them. They're moving out into the area where the people are and they sit down and talk to them," Phares explained.

None of the food ever goes to waste.

"Any food we have leftover we always have carry outs we give to people to take home with them."

Circle of Friends offers meals every weekend of the month, except the second weekend when it is hosted by Wesley United Methodist Church.
