KINGWOOD -
The Preston County Animal Shelter gave its 2012 report to county commission Monday morning.
The shelter said it has not euthanized an animal since December of 2011.
In 2012 it cared for 900 animals, adopting 26 percent, and rescuing 70 percent of them.
Already in 2013 the shelter has cared for more than 200 animals, and said it couldn't do it without the volunteers.
"They can do things that we can't," said Courtney Austin, director of the shelter. "They can go out and promote the shelter, and ask for donations, and tell their friends, tell their families, you should get involved, you can help out. So if we have the volunteers that get the socialization between and interaction between those animals."
The shelter said volunteering is on the rise at the shelter.
If you'd like to help out you can call them at 304-329-3461.
