Barbour County could have a pair of bomb dogs in the near future.

Sheriff John Hawkins has offered two proposals to the Barbour County Board of Education at its meeting Monday night.

In both cases, he'll need money from the BOE to help train at least two dogs to locate bombs.

Hawkins said he'll need two dogs safely to clear any large buildings in the area.

"We're trying to do a joint proposal with the Barbour County Sheriff's Office and the Board of Education to train a couple of dogs. We have some handlers with a group in the county that are already certified handlers. We just need to train a couple of dogs and have those available for use," said Hawkins.

Sheriff Hawkins said he'll present  the same proposals to Barbour County Commission.
