Fairmont State University's Caperton Center in Clarksburg hosted a public forum Tuesday evening on Clean Elections and Public Financing.

The forum specifically addressed how public campaign financing can help a candidate.

Wayne Worth is with North Central West Virginia's Democracy for America. Worth said public financing provides full funding to candidates who agree to limit their spending and reject private donations from special interest groups like large companies.

"A person who utilizes public financing money he or she will have more time to go out into the community, go door, to door, do some real grassroots campaigning because he or she won't have to worry about having all these fund raising events," Worth said.

Worth also said eliminating fund raising events makes it necessary for candidates to go out into the community and learn what issues are most important to the voters.
