A Wayne County jury awarded more than $900,000 to 18 families living in Huntington's Spring Valley region, concluding that Huntington's failure to maintain a storm water control system caused a flood in that area.
Bailey & Glasser, a Charleston law firm representing Spring Valley residents, announced that the $9,36,522 verdict exceeds $1 million with interest.
The news release states this is the second time in almost three years that a jury has found the city negligent in maintaining the storm control system. In 2010, a jury awarded 22 families nearly $775,000.
"The jury in both cases clearly found fault with the City's failure to maintain storm water control systems," said Jonathan Marshall of Bailey & Glasser. "With more than $1.7 million awarded from the two lawsuits, we trust the City of Huntington fully understands and will, in the future, take seriously its responsibility to these residents. No one wants this to happen again."
