The State Law Library and the Central West Virginia Earned Income Tax Credit are offering free income tax preparation for taxpayers earning $49,000 or less.

The program is limited to simple tax returns.

According to the news release from the state Supreme Court, these are the items people should bring: proof of identification (driver's license, West Virginia identification card); social security cards for you, your spouse and dependents you are claiming; birth dates for self spouse and dependents; if married and filing jointly, both spouses must be present to sign documents; W-2, W-2G, 1099-R wage and earnings statement from all employers; and interest and dividend statements from banks.

If applicable, people also must bring receipts for 2012 property taxes, charitable donations, medical deductions student loan interest payments, student tuition payment statement, bank account and bank routing numbers for direct deposit and the total paid to daycare provider's tax identification number.

Appointments are required and must be scheduled before April 13 by calling the State Law Library at 304-558-2607. Appointments may be scheduled between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to noon Friday and Saturday.

The State Law Library is located on the fourth floor of the east wing of the state Capitol in Charleston.
