MORGANTOWN -

The U.S. Department of Energy's Regional Science Bowl for West Virginia was held in Morgantown Saturday.

This is a state level tournament for 18 high school teams. Students were invited to compete by answering rounds of fast paced questions. The questions focus on engineering, science, and mathematics.

"They have to first of all study and be very astute academically. Typically geared towards the mathematics, physics and chemistry like that," said Kirk Gerdes, regional coordinator of the science bowl. "They have to form a team, get a sponsor and win their local tournament. That tournament is the between many county schools within a limited region. So they've qualified to be here."

Parkersburg High School won the tournament Saturday and will go to the National Science Bowl competition to compete against 64 other teams.
