A group of Taylor County residents have been working together to replace the grass on Grafton High School's McKinney Field for more than a year now.
Friends of McKinney Field has raised more than $100,000 toward the turfing project.
It has received donations from Grafton alumni, anonymous donors, and the Taylor County Commission. The current field has serious drainage problems and the group said the replacement is a necessity.
"Two years ago we bought all the kitty litter in the tri county area to try to drain the field," Friends of McKinney Field member John Bord said. "We've just had every problem with drainage you could possibly have with really no way of fixing it."
Friends of McKinney Field will host a kickoff reception on Tuesday night. It will begin at 6:00 in the Mary Battle Studio. The committee will discuss fundraising plans and share ideas with the community.
