A Webster County man is suing West Virginia University Healthcare, after being charged more than $500 for a copy of his medical records.

The lawsuit said Christopher Thomack requested his records in July and received more than 1,200 pages on a CD.

WVUH charged him 40-cents per page and a $10 search fee.

State code allows hospitals to charge up to 75-cents per page and up to $10 for a search fee.

The lawsuit argues no actual pages were produced.

Thomack is seeking a class action certification, meaning anyone who has sought and received records from WVUH over the last five years may qualify in the suit.

WVUH declined to comment.
