MORGANTOWN -
Financial aid deadlines at many of local colleges and universities are right around the corner.
To help students prepare, West Virginia University is recognizing National Financial Aid Awareness Week.
All week long representatives from WVU's Financial Aid office will be in the Mountainlair reminding students to fill out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA.)
Each year students looking for aid must fill out the application, and for some, receiving it is the difference between going to school and not.
"At WVU 70 percent of our students receive some sort of federal assistance," said Tresa Weimer, Interim Director of Financial Aid. "So for many of those students is making or break it, it determines whether or not they can attend college."
That's a lot riding on one application. To help West Virginia will hold FAFSA informational meetings, Sunday, February 10, in more than 20 places across the state.
College Goal Sunday helps students and parents understand the process and answer any questions.
"Most of the questions have to deal with their financial's and the information provided on their tax returns. Where does it go? Where does it fit in to? The FAFSA, why do they have to provide it. Those types of things," said Weimer.
Here is a list of College Goal Sunday times and locations.
