Hooi Yin Boey, who teaches piano at Alderson-Broaddus College, has been selected Teacher of the Year by the West Virginia Music Teachers Association. All music teachers statewide are eligible for this award.

Founded in 1966 in Morgantown, the purpose of WVMTA is committed to advancing the value of music study and music making to society and to supporting the professionalism of music teachers.

Boey, an associate professor of music at Alderson-Broaddus, is a native of Malaysia. She earned her associate degree in piano performance at Sedaya College in Kuala Lumpur. She then earned a bachelor of music, a master of music and a doctor of musical arts degree in piano performance at West Virginia University. 

In her eighth year at A-B, she is active as recitalist and accompanist and has given scholarly presentations at the Music Teachers National Association National Convention and at the West Virginia Music Education Association State Convention. 

She performed in the 2010 ensemble debut of Alderson-Broaddus's concert choir at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
