Clarksburg City Council had a visit from the mayor of Wheeling, Andy McKenzie, who explained how the home rule pilot program helped his city.
City council hopes to join cities, like Wheeling and Bridgeport, in the home rule pilot program if the state legislature votes to extend it.
Council said that if the legislature votes to extend the program, it is hoping for four new cities to be added for at least three more years. Clarksburg will put in an application to be added if legislature extends it.
Council also hopes to save money by consolidating bonds at the Clarksburg Water Board.
"The consolidation of bonds with a lower interest rate will save our tax payers close to a million dollars over the course of the bond," said mayor Patsy Trecost. "Anytime you can save the tax payers money and not generate more tax dollars by taxing them with an increase, it's very successful. We're happy to be a partner with the Water Board."
City council also approved the use of an abandoned alley near Main and Waldeck Streets for the new CVS pharmacy. Council member Margaret Bailey said this will be the right step for the future development of Clarksburg and will add new jobs to the area.
