Construction on the Mileground in Morgantown is for an access road to Eastwood Elementary School, a new school being built in Monongalia County.

The project, known as the "705-connector," is designed to improve traffic flow along the Mileground and surrounding areas.

Monongalia County Commission said the project includes a pair of roundabouts, and improvements to Route 705.

But, Commissioner Eldon Callen said he doesn't believe this is the county's best option.

"We need a northern bypass," Callen said. "We need a bypass in this city. With the development of the TIFF, the project in the University Town Center, the projections are already updated, that there will be 1,500 permanent jobs there, and as many 15,000 more residents in this county."

Construction is in part one of 3 phases.
